Role Definition

Reports to the Accounting Manager – Responsible for supporting Norbord’s finance and accounting systems including accounts payable, payroll, financial and operational reporting for a mill.  The individual will drive initiatives and provide thought leadership in areas such as margin improvement (MIP), best practices, analysis and cost control to the operation, including working along with mill personnel to ensure timely, accurate, and relevant financial and statistical analysis and reporting for mill management.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Support mill accounting activities including accounts payable, payroll and financial reporting
  • Support the timely and accurate reporting of financial, operational and statistical data
  • Support margin improvement efforts by actively working with supervisors/managers; evaluating cost objectives and providing analyses that help identify opportunity areas and reporting on the results
  • Develop and maintain reporting of financial and non-financial key performance indicators
  • Assist Accounting Manager with preparation of forecasts, weekly P&L, production cost models, etc.
  • Learn and develop a strong understanding of the various aspects of the mill to provide insight into margin improvement (MIP) opportunities, capital plans, and project budgets

Accounts Payable Function:

  • Responsible for payables processing at the mill and executing automation initiatives to streamline and minimize clerical/paper processing of payables

      Financial Management and Reporting:

  • Responsible for assisting with month-end closing process and reporting, general ledger reconciliations, account analyses, etc.
  • Help to ensure that accounting is in compliance with company policies and internal controls
  • Improve or identify controls where necessary and identify efficiency opportunities
  • Work hands-on with mill management in improving and developing monthly reporting on financial and non-financial key performance indicators
  • Provide analysis as necessary

Planning and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the completion of weekly and quarterly forecasts, and annual business plans
  • Analyze forecast to actual variances, understand drivers and communicate/share information with mill management

        Other Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Know accounting practices and policies;
  • Be organized, detail-oriented, analytical;
  • Set priorities appropriately and be responsive to changes that require refocusing;
  • Ensure required reporting is done properly;
  • Participate as required in mill management meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Salary commensurate with experience.

  • 1-5 years’ experience in accounting
  • BS Degree in Accounting or Finance
