Senior Manager, Financial Reporting & Corporate Accounting

TORONTO, ONTARIO – CORPORATE OFFICE

Reports to the Financial Controller – Responsible for supporting Norbord’s external and internal financial reporting including the global consolidation, quarterly external financial statements, and other requirements. The individual will drive Longview initiatives and be responsible for technical accounting analysis.

Role Definition

Responsible for supporting Norbord’s external and internal financial reporting including the global consolidation, quarterly external financial statements and other requirements. The individual will also be responsible for technical accounting analysis as well as the general ledger for head office entities.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Monthly consolidation of all worldwide entities
  • Preparation of monthly internal financial statements and supporting documentation, including SG&A and cash flow analysis
  • Preparation of quarterly and annual external financial statements, including note disclosures and XBRL filings
  • Preparation of quarterly reporting to Brookfield (significant shareholder)
  • Research and draft accounting technical memos for any new IFRS or new transactions
  • Managing and mentoring two corporate accounting analysts

Global Consolidation:

  • Responsible for the monthly consolidation of the North American and European operating groups, corporate entities and consolidation entries
  • Monthly analysis of foreign exchange amounts on both the Statement of Earnings as well as Shareholders’ Equity (CTA)
  • Responsible for Longview (consolidation tool) maintenance, including the impact of corporate reorganizations
  • Liaising with mill and European head office accountants on disclosure requirements, variance analysis and accounting policy compliance

Financial Reporting:

  • Working in concert with Treasury and Tax groups to have all pension and tax provision amounts booked, respectively
  • Maintenance of accounting adjustments and presentation differences for reporting to Brookfield
  • Preparation of quarterly Brookfield templates for both actual and forecast results
  • Responding to ad hoc Brookfield requests (e.g. company statistics, accounting fees)
  • Responsible for drafting of quarterly consolidated forecast financial statements
  • Preparation of annual consolidated plan document
  • Preparation of other reporting (StatsCan returns, schedules to support tax filings, statutory audits of holding companies, website information)
  • Liaising with KPMG for their quarterly review and annual audit work; responding to queries, providing supporting schedules and working with them on issue resolution

Technical Analysis:

  • Analyze new IFRS and document the impact to the company
  • Analyze and document the accounting impact of new transactions
  • Preparation of PPE impairment indicator analysis
  • Valuation of RSUs and stock option expense amortization

Other initiatives:

  • Actively maintaining the control environment within the financial reporting group
  • Identification and implementation of new controls
  • Participating on key strategic projects including the upgrade of Microsoft Dynamics AX and enhancements to the Longview application

Education/Experience:

  • CPA, CA designation required with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience
  • Experience with consolidations and journal entry preparation and review
