Product Innovation Manager

Reporting to the Director of Norbord Technology Centre, the Product Innovation Manager is responsible for assisting with corporate research and development activities, as well as new product development. The Product Innovation Manager will provide proven leadership while promoting excellence as established in the Company vision, mission and values.

The primary role & responsibility of this position is to:

  • Demonstrate creativity in the development of new wood products. Promote the spirit of innovation across different networks; suppliers, the R & I community, cross-functional teams. Contribute to bringing new ideas for development from concept to mill implementation
  • Explore new consumer trends, to apply them to new innovations
  • Support the innovation process by proposing, developing and implementing new building product ideas
  • Develop and implement new wood product applications that are aligned with reducing cost or construction time
  • Foster cross-functionally (marketing, sales, manufacturing, engineering and supply chain)
  • Participates in working sessions with sales and marketing to build the “Ideas Pipeline”
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with potential new customers, vendors, suppliers, co-manufacturers and other sources of applicable technologies
  • Contribute to the development projects all sizes
  • Accountable for the creation and maintenance of the product specifications, once implemented in manufacturing
  • Organize and conduct trials in an industrial environment

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum, master’s degree in sciences or engineering ideal (chemistry, mechanical, chemical or related engineering science)
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a process engineering field (preferably in wood products)
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross functional teams involving marketing, sales, purchasing and manufacturing in the development of new products and proven track record of implementation of new product ideas
  • Experience in use of statistical tools for problem solving
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, Microsoft Project
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and make risk-based decisions
  • Self-starter, autonomous and demonstrated ability to bring new unsolicited ideas and solutions to the table
  • Ability to travel approximately 40% of the time
