Industrial Account Manager – Northeastern USA

Norbord is committed to developing innovative new strand based technologies that will provide creative solutions to the industrial panel market. Positioning our company as a solution based provider to the massive industrial manufacturing segment, the candidate will play a major role in increasing customers and sales.

Reporting to the Director of Specialty/Industrial Sales, the Industrial Account Manager is the subject matter expert within the defined categories of industrial and engineered wood products.  In this sales and product development role, responsibilities and deliverables will include identifying key opportunities and solutions beyond residential construction markets.  The focus is to develop new strand products and customers, specifically in the industrial manufacturing sector.  Geographic market focus is North America, but specifically this individual will focus on the Great Lakes + East markets. The role will be home based with required travel within the US and Canada.

The Industrial Account Manager will translate market insights into strategic growth and innovation opportunities to leverage assets through diversified product offerings servicing non-residential and commercial industries. The position is accountable for developing actionable goals and strategies to drive successful differentiated growth by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

The role is part of Norbord’s Strand Technologies Industrial Sales Team that provides the sales function for Norbord’s North American strand mills and works with other Norbord sales teams as required.

Internally, the Industrial Account Manager interfaces with all individuals involved in Norbord operations.



The primary challenge of this position is to develop strategic targeted accounts in identified industrial segments, while maximizing the net margin return on sales by:

  • Working with the Director of Specialty/Industrial Sales, the sales team and Norbord’s technical team, the Industrial Account Manager will identify, develop and market products used by/in industrial applications which will yield the highest net margin return from the available fiber and plant configuration.
  • Targeted marketing of strand products to geographic regions and industrial customer segments, which will yield first quartile margin returns.


  • Ensure maximum net margin return using the product efficiency model and sales to strategic accounts in North America.
  • Responsible for the coordinated product flow from the mill to customers and reloads.
  • Analyze market trends, product values and activities of competitors by keeping abreast of market conditions and new products and recommend appropriate action, where necessary, by the company.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual financial budgets and business plans.
  • Travel and customer relations as required to effectively fulfill the sales, communications and coordination needs of specialty/industrial sales.
  • Participate as a member of the industrial sales team in strategic planning, communication meetings and ad hoc project teams.
  • Maintain accurate customer information.
  • Operate in a safe manner in accordance to work safe rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Recognize and eliminate all safety hazards.

Continual Improvement

  • Support and explore innovative ideas that further Norbord’s strategic plan.
  • Actively participate in building a continuous improvement culture that builds on our customer partnership approach.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in industrial segment sales.
  • Product and customer development experience.
  • Thorough technical knowledge of the strand and engineered panel manufacturing process and understanding of the specialty panel industry.
  • Experience and extensive knowledge of the industrial/manufacturing sectors.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to travel within North America is required.
  • PC based analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be self-motivated and organized in work habits.
  • Experience in industrial customers and markets, engineered wood products and distribution is essential.
