Electronic and Instrumentation Technician – Bemidji, MN

 Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, this position will be responsible for the inspection, installation, repair, adjustment, construction, modification, calibration, programming and wiring of electrical and electronic apparatus, devices, and circuits of any voltages in the mill or assigned area.  The technician will also be responsible for the service of all types of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical equipment and any type of integrating and graphical control, and electronic or mechanical instruments.  This position will work in 12 hour rotating shifts in a 24/7 operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

  • Safety – Promotes, adheres to, and contributes to plant safety programs and ensures compliance with best maintenance practices (BMP’s)
  • Safely operate and test energized electrical systems
  • Under little supervision, performs a variety of tasks involved in the provision of E&I services, internal customer service and reporting
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
  • Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wiring, switchgear, transformers, reactors, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components
  • Use required equipment including hand tools, calibrators, and electrical test equipment including multi-meters to test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, calibrate, test and install electrical motors, alternators, industrial storage batteries and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems and other related devices including but not limited to pressure, flow, temperature and safety monitoring devices
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and keep maintenance records
  • Evaluate processes for improved quality, cost effectiveness and potential growth.


Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of:

  • Troubleshooting control loops, single point devices, networked devices
  • Process instrumentation
  • Communication protocols (4/20mA, Hart, Fieldbus)
  • Troubleshooting and testing of power systems (24Vdc, AC systems up to 4160 V)
  • Technical documents (P&IDs, Electrical Drawings, Technical Manuals)
  • Extensive knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC5 and ControlLogix, Ethernet Connect Control Systems, and Allen Bradley AC Drives, reading logic documentation or PC interface


  • Associates Degree/Technical Degree or Higher preferred, namely in Process Instrumentation or other electrical discipline.
  • 3-5 years’ experience providing E&I services in an industrial manufacturing setting
  • Strong computer proficiency required, namely the ability to operate a variety of electronic and microcomputer instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, and level.


  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A proactive individual with a strong preventative maintenance approach.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills with planning on a daily basis.
  • Constant walking and stair climbing.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.
  • Results driven with proven problem-solving abilities.

Position is non-exempt.   Rate of pay is DOE
