Reporting to the Production Manager, the Area Supervisor Finishing/Shipping is a leadership position responsible for SAFELY managing the day-to-day production of their area with a goal of production running at 100% efficiency.  This position supports the Production Teams with a strong emphasis on safety, quality and efficiency to generate sustained process improvements.  The Area Supervisor relies on leadership abilities, in conjunction with knowledge of OSB production processes and a continuous improvement/preventative maintenance mindset in order to support and promote excellence as established in the Company vision, mission and values.

Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working with team members and leadership to reinforce and support safety being the core value for everyone at Norbord – including contractors and visitors.
  • Ensuring all employees in the finishing/shipping area have up to date training in the safe operation of plant equipment based on Company standards and agreed upon safe best practices.
  • Providing leadership, direction, evaluation and appropriate feedback to support team success in achieving area objectives for safety, reliability, quality and housekeeping.
  • Maintaining appropriate communication and contact with the mill to ensure process is operating safe and reliably.
  • Ensures effective record-keeping is accurately maintained through (but not limited to) time books, logbooks, production reports, check lists, down-time and equipment breakdown reports.
  • Active participation in leadership initiatives supporting safety, quality, environmental and reliability.

Qualifications required:

  • Post secondary education; such as a Technical Diploma or Wood Science Degree, and/or minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in a senior production role.
  • Experience in wood products manufacturing would be considered an asset.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience with demonstrated success of leading team members through coaching and career development
