What is OSB?
OSB stands for 'Oriented Strand Board' - in layman's terms this means strands of timber that are laid in cross directional layers and mechanically pressed to form a structurally engineered board. Oriented Strand Board (OSB) is an engineered wood-based panel designed for construction and other industrial use. SterlingOSB or ‘Sterling Board’ as it is often called is one of Europe’s most widely used and trusted structural panels.

What's the difference between SterlingOSB3 and SterlingOSB2?
SterlingOSB3 is used in humid structural applications and has BBA approval for wall sheathing, roofing and flooring. SterlingOSB2 is used in less arduous, non-humid applications and does not have BBA certification.

Why is SterlingOSB referred to as ‘the natural successor to plywood’?
SterlingOSB does everything that softwood plywood does and has many additional benefits:
  • OSB is more environmentally friendly
  • OSB generally costs slightly less
  • OSB is homegrown and is always available
  • OSB performs consistently well - plywood has variable performance
  • OSB has no core gaps or knot holes
Why is it better?
OSB is easy to install and has many applications. SterlingOSB panels are manufactured to ensure consistency. In addition to wall sheathing, OSB is used for roof sheathing, floor sheathing and other specialty uses.

Can I use SterlingOSB3 as a floating floor?
Absolutely – OSB flooring is used successfully throughout Europe. You must ensure that battens are used for the substructure and are appropriately spaced at 400mm centres for 15mm and up to 600mm for 18mm.
