Specifiers who choose Norbord’s Caberdek moisture resistant flooring system now have the added benefit of the new Caberdek Sealfast adhesive system with full British Board of Agrement (BBA) certification.

Caberdek is a P5 moisture resistant, tongue-and-groove particleboard product featuring a slip-resistant surface film which protects the newly-laid floor against damage during ongoing building work.

The floor can be laid in house construction where it is likely to be exposed to the elements prior to the installation of the roof. When the building is made weathertight and following trades are finished, the protective film is peeled off to expose a clean, dry surface ready to accept the floor finish. And, due to fast speed of use, it’s perfect for both on-site and off-site manufacture whether this is for timber-frame construction or flooring cassette manufacture.

Since 2002, Caberdek has carried BBA certification, giving the customer the assurance of knowing that it has been rigorously and impartially assessed and will allow compliance with the relevant Building Regulations.

Now, BBA has reassessed the Caberdek system to take into account the development of Sealfast, Norbord’s new double function waterproof adhesive that both seals the tongue-and-groove joints and bonds the Caberdek boards to the floor joist.

Sealfast dramatically speeds up Caberdek installation, dispensing with the requirement for two types of adhesive and eliminating the need to tape the joints to prevent water ingress. It also produces a higher quality, more durable floor structure.

Re-testing of the Caberdek Sealfast system was carried out in August 2008. This involved setting up a floor assembly using Caberdek and Sealfast adhesive at BBA headquarters. The boards were then submersed in what is termed a “ponding test” for 42 days. The test was to determine if there was any water leakage through the T&G joints. The Caberdek Sealfast system passed with flying colours and has been awarded BBA certificate number 02/3934.

When specifying any construction product it is always worth asking for a copy of the BBA certificate just to be sure and to have this on record.'
