Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust was in urgent need of a shelter for the juvenile cranes. Norbord was only too happy to provide SterlingOSB for the project which ensured that the cranes had somewhere safe and warm to live.
Originally, Durrell was using a material for the project which was not environmentally friendly. Being a conservation trust, Durrell needed a sustainable product which Norbord’s SterlingOSB is, as it is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. SterlingOSB is also a robust material that can withstand the winters in Jersey.
Durrell contacted Norbord, and distributor Normans, about the shelter. SterlingOSB was recommended and, at very short notice, Norbord was quick to get to work providing the materials.
Peter Ball from Norbord said; “We are hopeful that this quick response will lead to a lasting relationship with Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and that we can help them in the future with any wildlife emergency!”
David Jeggo, Head of Birds at Durrell commented, “On the accommodation for the three young cranes, it’s really simple but brilliant, providing them with a nice sheltered and secure place for them to grow and develop. It’s the first time we have raised the crowned cranes away from their parents for a number of years and without this assistance, we didn’t have the facilities required. They have done really well and developed into nice fit juveniles.”
In addition, Dave Marett, Durrell’s Site Manager commented: “We were recommended Norbord from a Normans (CI) Ltd sales representative and offered a free trial of 20 sheets of SterlingOSB. We used the trial boards for the construction of a rearing shelter for cranes as explained by David, and then we have purchased another 30 sheets to construct a store building for our Mammal Department and staging for our annual Durrell Pantomime with the remainder held as stock. We were pleased with the quality of the boards and will continue to use it for various jobs across Durrell’s site. An important factor for us here at Durrell is that it is FSC-certified and produced from sustainable resources. Our operatives have all found SterlingOSB easy to work with and it is certainly good value for money and perfect for many of our applications.”
