Norbord, Stand No. M50, Housebuilding Show, 9-10 October 2007, Business Design Centre, London
As the UK’s leading producer of engineered wood-based panels, Norbord will be exhibiting at the Housebuilding 2007 Show at the Business Design Centre in Islington on 9-10 October. The two-day event will address the issues and challenges faced by the housebuilding industry.
Although all eyes are focused on the construction workload for the 2012 Olympics, there is an even bigger building job to be done in the housing sector. Last year, Prime Minister Gordon Brown estimated that between now and 2016 the UK needs to increase its rate of house construction by 20,000 to 200,000 units a year. To reach this, the housebuilding industry needs to improve its speed and efficiency while, at the same time, battling rising land costs. Given that most of its SterlingOSB, particleboard and MDF output is destined for the construction industry, Norbord is consequently at the vanguard of efforts to improve building efficiency.
As the UK’s largest manufacturer of oriented strand board (OSB), particleboard and MDF, Norbord offers cost-effective, environmentally-sustainable, high performance products for every type of house construction. SterlingOSB 9mm has become the most specified sheathing panel for UK-made timber frame systems and Norbord supplies an estimated 60% of all 9mm OSB in the UK. Norbord’s SterlingOSB is also widely used as a sarking board in traditional, as well as timber frame, houses. Sterling Roofdek, a high quality tongue-and-grooved version of SterlingOSB is used for both flat and pitched roof applications.
Another essential component in the housebuilding industry is Norbord’s Caberboard particleboard products, which range from Caberboard P1/2/3 grades for general use, such as kitchen worktops, to Caberdek P5, a moisture-resistant flooring with slip-resistant, peel-clean weather protection.
Norbord also manufactures Caberwood, the UK’s leading brand of MDF. Caberwood is available in a range of grades, from Caberwood Light, 20% lighter than standard MDF and ideal for shopfitting, caravans and boat building, to Caberwood Deep Rout, a top-quality MDF with an even textured, close-grained structure that is ideal for deep routed surfaces taking high-gloss finishes.
Caberwood MDF MR (moisture-resistant) MDF is used to produce a vast range of products including mouldings, skirtings, architraves and cupboard doors, for the housebuilding market and is one of the most widely-used wood products in modern house construction. Representatives from Norbord will be on hand to provide advice on their products and it will be a chance for housebuilders to view and ask questions about them. |
