Installing high quality, creak-free suspended timber floors has become quicker and easier with the launch of Caberdek Sealfast, a new flooring system from Norbord. The system combines Caberdek tongue and groove P5 flooring, a staple ingredient to most housebuilders, and a polyurethane (PU) structural glue.

The system combines Caberdek tongue and groove P5 flooring, a staple ingredient to most housebuilders, and a polyurethane (PU) structural glue.

The Caberdek Sealfast system is a quicker, simpler alternative to most existing flooring adhesive systems on the market. The secret behind this speedy system is the time saving that is achieved by firstly, not having to tape the joints and secondly a reduction the number of fixings required. This system replaces the existing industry standard method of running PVA glue along the joints and applying a protective tape to keep moisture out of the joint.

“PVA is good woodworking glue but it’s not as strong as PU and it’s not waterproof” says Jim Caldwell, technical sales manager at Norbord. “Using the Caberdek Sealfast system now means that you get a stronger floor and no squeaks because every part of the floor assembly that can be bonded, is bonded”.

The Sealfast glue is also used to bond the Caberdek P5 flooring boards to joists. This method reduces the number of nails or screws required, from 12 per board to just three, which are used to hold the board in place for 40 minutes while the glue cures.

Talking about where the product will be sold, Jim adds, “Initially our target market is companies specialising in offsite and timber frame manufacturing. For them speed of floor assembly is crucial. The faster they can assemble the floor in the factory, the faster the kit can get to site. We think by using this new system offsite manufacturers will notice a real time saving, which leads to a valuable cost saving.”

Jim concludes “We’re really excited about this new development which is an industry first. We don’t know of any other flooring system that combines structural glue for both joints and joists along with peel clean flooring.”

The Caberdek Sealfast system is now available from existing Norbord stockists, together with the special applicator gun and cleaning fluid.
