I’ve been trying to find a corner bookcase to fit neatly into my petite living room and provide some much-needed storage but haven’t had any luck. Is it possible to build my own? My colour scheme is blues and oranges so ideally I’d like something that complements that.

Contiboard is nice and easy to work with. You can saw, drill and shape it before completing your bookcase so it fits into your allocated space. You can either choose from one of the many available wood effect finishes or, if you want to match it perfectly to your colour scheme, choose the satin white finish, then paint to suit. White Contiboard, is available at B&Q, with prices ranging from approximately £2-£16 per board depending on the size of panel. It’s easy to prepare for painting, just clean the surface with soap and water to remove any grease using taking care not to dampen it. After allowing it to dry, sand it down lightly to give it a key then apply two coats of acrylic primer. B&Q sells melamine-based paint which is perfect for painting Contiboard as it gives it a nice tough finish. The new range of wood effect Contiboard is available in 18mm width which is 3mm thicker than the standard 15mm satin white finish. Norbord, the company that makes Contiboard, recommends that, before painting all over, a paint test is carried out in an inconspicuous area first – just to be on the safe side. Hints and tips on using Contiboard are available on the Conti website plus there’s also help to build your corner bookcase with cutting plans and assembly guide.
