Norbord has made a major investment in the manufacturing process for its brand-leading Conti range.
The UK’s leading manufacturer of engineered wood products has commissioned state-of-the-art edge banding equipment at its South Molton mill in Devon.
The new line – which was officially opened on 22 March – brings a number of benefits, according to Tony Tanton, Norbord’s Added Value Operational Manager.
He said: “The new line provides increased capacity without loss of quality and superb flexibility when it comes to the introduction of new finishes and materials – particularly important when one considers the outcome of the new product trials with B&Q.
“But the investment is more about versatility of production. Being able to meet not just today’s product parameters but also what the market or our customers may demand of us in the future were important considerations.”
Norbord conducted extended trials in a number of selected stores in a variety of new finishes, accessories and materials. This included a range of contemporary wood grain finishes which feature a thicker board. The feedback has been positive and plans to roll these new finishes into more stores are already underway.
“As soon as the trial of the new products began we realised that investment would be required if the new ranges proved successful,” added Tanton. Being able to meet the anticipated demand that these new finishes will generate was a prime motivator.”
Wayne Hovord, General Manager of the plant, said: “The Conti brand is one of the most established in the DIY market and Norbord’s investment in the manufacture of this product demonstrates our commitment to its continued success. When one considers the brand is over three decades old its continued success is a testament to the practicality of this DIY storage solution phenomenon.” |
